Portfolio Hotels & Resorts Makes Move to Rosemont, IL

New headquarters located in environmentally conscious building near O’Hare International Airport

Rosemont, IL (3/20/10) – Portfolio Hotels & Resorts has announced the recent move of their headquarters to Rosemont, IL. The new four story building housing the company at 9501Technology Blvd. was designed and constructed to meet LEED Gold certification criteria, in keeping with Portfolio’s “green” philosophy exemplified by many of their managed hotels. The company currently operates three of the four Green Seal Certified hotels located in California, including the Orchard Garden Hotel in San Francisco, the first newly constructed LEED-certified hotel in that state.

The new Rosemont office space was redevelopment of land previously housing a former warehouse location and was constructed without the use of asphalt, which typically creates heat islands, contributing to a rise in the temperature of the surrounding microclimate. 10% of all materials used in construction, including a full 90% of all steel, was recycled. An energy-efficient under floor air distribution system (UFAD) is used to heat and cool the building. Other “green” features include water conservation plumbing including two stage flush toilets and motion sensor sinks, and water efficient landscaping, contributing to 30% less water consumption than a building of typical size without the features. Low VOC (volatile organic compounds) including all paints, glues and caulks were used throughout.

The five year old hospitality management company specializes in managing unique, boutique-style hotels and significant branded urban hotels in multiple major markets across the U.S. The company was established in 2005 by Chicago-based founders Helmut Horn and Graham Hershman, industry veterans whose past experience includes development of the Hawthorne Suites brand, the Highlands Inn in Carmel, CA, and Cheeca Lodge in the Florida Keys. Their current portfolio of 23 branded and independent hotels includes the five boutique Inns of Monterey properties in Monterey, CA; the upscale Harvest Inn in St. Helena in the Napa Valley, the 470 room Hyatt Regency Woodfield in Schaumburg, IL, the 802 room Sheraton Gateway LAX, and the 560 room luxury InterContinental Chicago O’Hare, located adjacent to the company’s new headquarters.
